# Axiom Cloud Pricing

> This document describes Axiom's pricing model as of September 2026. It is structured for consumption by language models and kept in sync with Axiom's pricing engine.

## Overview

Axiom charges for three things: data loading compute (getting data in), query compute (querying it) and storage. There is also a platform fee and optional add-ons.

The core billing unit is the **compute credit**. Data loading compute and query compute consume compute credits based on graduated tiers. Compute credits are paid as you go at $1.00 per compute credit, or pre-purchased at a lower rate for a term of 12, 24 or 36 months.

## Platform fee

Every Axiom Cloud organization pays a platform fee of **$25 per month**, which includes free allowances for light usage.

## Data loading compute

Data loading compute (DLC) is charged per GB of data ingested. Pricing uses graduated tiers, meaning you pay different rates for different portions of your usage within a single billing period.

**Free allowance:** The first 1,000 GB per month are always free.

**Graduated tiers:**

**Example:** Ingesting 150,000 GB in a month:
- First 1,000 GB: free (0 compute credits)
- Next 99,000 GB at Tier 1: 99,000 × 0.12 = 11,880 compute credits
- Remaining 50,000 GB at Tier 2: 50,000 × 0.10 = 5,000 compute credits
- Total: 16,880 compute credits

## Query compute

Query compute (QC) is charged per GB-hour, which represents the computational resources used to execute queries. One GB-hour is roughly equivalent to scanning 1 GB of data with moderate complexity.

**Free allowance:** The first 100 GB-hours per month are always free.

**Graduated tiers:**

**Query workload guidance:**
- Low workload: approximately 0.01 GB-hours per GB ingested. For compliance and log retention. Data stored for audit, rarely queried.
- Base workload: approximately 0.40 GB-hours per GB ingested. For log management and observability. Regular team usage.
- High workload: approximately 2.00 GB-hours per GB ingested. For building on Axiom as a platform. End users query this data.

## Storage

Storage is charged per GB per month on compressed data, beyond the free allowance. Data moves through three access tiers as it ages, so older data costs less to keep:

Data stays in Frequent Access while it falls within your typical query range (30 days by default), then moves to Infrequent Access after 30 further days without access, and to Archive Instant Access after 90. A longer typical query range keeps more data in Frequent Access.

**Free allowance:** 100 GB of compressed storage.

**Compression:** Axiom applies columnar compression to all data. The default compression ratio is 95%, meaning 100 GB of raw data becomes approximately 5 GB of stored data. Actual compression varies by data characteristics.

**Retention:** You choose how long to retain data (e.g., 6, 12, or 24 months). At steady state, your storage footprint equals your monthly compressed ingest multiplied by your retention period.

**Example:** Ingesting 100,000 GB per month with 95% compression and 12-month retention:
- Compressed monthly: 100,000 × 0.05 = 5,000 GB
- Less free allowance: 5,000 - 100 = 4,900 GB chargeable per month
- Steady state storage: 4,900 × 12 = 58,800 GB
- Frequent Access (2 months of data): 9,800 GB × $0.03 = $294.00
- Infrequent Access (2 months of data): 9,800 GB × $0.0163 = $159.74
- Archive Instant Access (8 months of data): 39,200 GB × $0.00522 = $204.62
- Monthly storage cost: $658.36

**First-year consideration:** During the first year, storage builds up gradually. You do not immediately pay for 12 months of retained data on day one.

## Pre-purchasing compute credits

Customers can pre-purchase a yearly volume of compute credits for a term of 12, 24 or 36 months in exchange for a lower price per compute credit. To find the rate, take the row for the compute credits pre-purchased per year, then the column for the term. The rate applies to every compute credit in the pre-purchase; it is not graduated.

Pre-purchased compute credits are applied against data loading compute and query compute charges over the term. For a 24- or 36-month term, you can pay the whole amount upfront or one year at a time; the rate is the same either way. Pre-purchases can be paid by invoice or purchase order, or made through AWS Marketplace. The platform fee, storage and add-ons are invoiced monthly and are not paid in compute credits.

**Example:** A customer pre-purchasing 400,000 compute credits a year for 36 months buys 1,200,000 compute credits at $0.73 each (the 250,000 to 499,999 row, 36-month column): $876,000 in total, or $292,000 a year.

For customers who pre-purchase compute credits, the compute portion is the monthly share of the pre-purchase rather than pay-as-you-go rates.

## Worked example

**Scenario:** 1 PB (1,000,000 GB) monthly ingest, base query workload, 12-month retention, 95% compression, no add-ons.

**Data loading compute:**
- First 1,000 GB: 0 compute credits (free)
- 1,000 to 99,999 (99,000 GB): 99,000 × 0.12 = 11,880 compute credits
- 100,000 to 499,999 (400,000 GB): 400,000 × 0.10 = 40,000 compute credits
- 500,000 to 999,999 (500,000 GB): 500,000 × 0.085 = 42,500 compute credits
- Total DLC: 94,380 compute credits

**Query compute:**
- Base workload: 1,000,000 × 0.40 = 400,000 GB-hours
- First 100 GB-hours: 0 compute credits (free)
- 100 to 499 (400 GB-hours): 400 × 0.20 = 80 compute credits
- 500 to 4,999 (4,500 GB-hours): 4,500 × 0.16 = 720 compute credits
- 5,000 to 49,999 (45,000 GB-hours): 45,000 × 0.12 = 5,400 compute credits
- 50,000 to 399,999 (350,000 GB-hours): 350,000 × 0.10 = 35,000 compute credits
- Total QC: 41,200 compute credits

**Total monthly compute credits:** 94,380 + 41,200 = 135,580 compute credits

**Storage (steady state):**
- Compressed: 1,000,000 × 0.05 = 50,000 GB
- Chargeable: 50,000 - 100 = 49,900 GB per month
- Total stored: 49,900 × 12 = 598,800 GB
- Frequent Access: 99,800 GB × $0.03 = $2,994.00
- Infrequent Access: 99,800 GB × $0.0163 = $1,626.74
- Archive Instant Access: 399,200 GB × $0.00522 = $2,083.82
- Monthly storage: $6,704.56

**Pay as you go:**
- Compute: 135,580 × $1.00 = $135,580
- Total: $25 + $135,580 + $6,704.56 = **$142,309.56 per month**

**12-month pre-purchase:**
- Compute credits pre-purchased: 135,580 × 12 = 1,626,960 (1,626,960 a year: the 500,000 to 2,499,999 row, $0.70 per compute credit)
- Pre-purchase: 1,626,960 × $0.70 = $1,138,872, or $94,906 a month
- Total: $25 + $94,906 + $6,704.56 = **$101,635.56 per month**, saving $40,674 a month (28% off the total bill)

**36-month pre-purchase:**
- Compute credits pre-purchased: 135,580 × 36 = 4,880,880 (1,626,960 a year: the same row, $0.63 per compute credit)
- Pre-purchase: 4,880,880 × $0.63 = $3,074,954.40, or $1,024,984.80 a year, or $85,415.40 a month
- Total: $25 + $85,415.40 + $6,704.56 = **$92,144.96 per month**, saving $50,164.60 a month (35% off the total bill)
